Arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport and transfer to a Hotel in Negombo – Sunset Baech or similar Negombo
Bustling Negambo town is a historically interesting place strongly influenced by the Catholic Church. The narrow strip of land between the lagoon & the sea and the many cannals make for good exploring.
The Dutch captured the town from the Portuguese in 1640, lost it again in the same year, then captured it back again in 1644. The British then took over from them in 1796 without a struggle. Negombo was one of the most important sources of cinnamon during the Dutch era

Day 2 - Negombo – Kalutara – Deniyaya (FB) |

| Clients will leave the hotel after an early breakfast from Negombo & proceed to Kalutara by Mini coach. Start off on the cycle journey (National Cycling Trail) up to Deniyaya.
Kalutara
Kalutara 42km south of Colombo , was once an important spice-trading centre controlled at various times by the Portuguese, Dutch & the British. Today it has a reputation for fine basket ware and also for the best mangosteens on the Island.
Immediately South of the Kalu Ganga bridge on the main road is the impressive Gangatilaka Vihara, which has a hollow dagoba (Buddist shrine) with an interesting painted interior. By the road side there's a small shrine and A Sacred “ Bodhi “ tree where drivers often stopover to make “offerings” to the Temple to ensure a safe journey.

Day 3 - Deniyaya / Singharaja / Adams Peak (FB) |

In the morning cycling up to the border of Singharaja Rain forest after breakfast and start trekking across the Rain Forest.
You will be driven to the starting point of the journey crossing a well known Tea Estate –
Ensalwatte Tea Estate - The vehicle will drop you off at the starting point of the journey after 5.2 km from Deniyaya. As leeches are a problem , it is necessary to have soap and salt in your backpack. Our guides will ensure that you have all these amenities & will also provide tips about how and when to use them .
Proceed about 6 to 7 km from the start off point till you come across an escarpment on to your right. Just before entering the forest you will se a typical small rural house. Proceed forward from its left till you aarive at a small stream. The real journey begins here!
Sinharaja is the last major undisturbed rainforest in Sri Lanka . Out of the vegetation found in this forest 70% are endemic to Sri Lanka out of which, 32% are endemic to this forest.
The canopy trees reach heights up to 45 m, with the next layer dropping about 30m. There are 45 species of reptiles, 21 of which are endemic. One of the most frequently found amphibians is the wrinkled frog, whose croak is often heard at night. There is a wealth birdlife where, 147 species have been recorded with 18 of Sri Lanka 's 26 endemic species being visible .

Cycles will be ready at the other side of the border when you emerge from the forest and then begin the cycle journey to Ratnapura- to the foot hills of Adams 's peak. On your way visit the gem mines to learn & discover about the gem culture in Ratnapura. Start the climb by late evening.

Ratnapura
Ratnapura - city of gems. A land of stirring myth and legend.
The extent to which Ratnapura still yields its fabulous gems is sufficient to account for the early tales of their profusion and splendour. Yes, Ratnapura (also called the city of rubies) remains to this day the convergence of Sri Lanka 's mineral wealth, the place to which the detritus of the rocks sweep down .
Adams Peak
Begin the arduous 08 km climb to the misty mountaintop with experienced local guides. You may reach the 2,240 metre high peak - the island's fourth highest - at dawn to witness a glorious sunrise and the mountain's shadow, cast by the rising sun on to the clouds below. Legend has it that, the footprint originally carved in the rock, and, now covered by an oversized reproduction set in cement, was made by the Buddha, on his third visit to the island.

Day 4 - Adams Peak / Dickoya / Agrapathana (FB) |

| After a morning snack start trekking down to the west side of the Adam’s peak. A picnic breakfast will await you at the foot of the mountain. After breakfast the clients will start cycling up to Dickoya and camp at Agarapathana . Dinner and night stay at a fully serviced luxury movable camp. |
Day 5 - Agrapathana / Horton Plains / Belihuloya (FB) |

After an early Breakfast clients will resume the cycle trail & proceed to Horton Plains & then through “Satan's Steps” an unforgettable experience . You will also pass Sri Lanka 's highest water fall “Bambarakanda” & travel to Belihuloya.
Horton Plains is one of the countries outstanding nature reserves. It covers the renowned World's End, a sheer drop of 3700ft which offers an awesome view. Other attractions include Bakers Falls and Chiminini Pool.Horton Plains Nature Reserve is approximately 10,000 hectares in extent. A remote, high plateau of 2000m, supports grassland fringed and interspersed with patches of dense montane cloud forest.
This locality is famous among bird watchers for the Sri Lanka Whistling Thrush.

Arrival at River Garden Resort Belihuloya in the late evening.
Belihuloya is a very picturesque and romantic hamlet situated about 160km from Colombo in the historical “Sabaragamuwa” province. This zone is a climatically transitional area linking the wet & dry zones and the hill country & the low country. This very important location has made it one of the places in the country with the highest bio-diversity. River Garden Resort is built in this little hamlet.

Day 6 - Belihuloya / Buttala (FB) |

The cycling trail will continue after a hearty Breakfast at Belihuloya, onto Buttala. Over Night stay at “Tree Tops Jungle Lodge.”
Packed lunch will be provided at a suitable location.

Tree Tops Jungle Lodge is near the North West border of the island's largest National Park, Yala. The last 5 km's of gravel road lead upto the lodge through uninhabited scrub jungle is a point where one leaves civilization This is elephant country and the jungles of Yala stretches to the south- and east coast .
The Tree Tops nature escape is an experience of living a simple lifestyle close to nature; a journey back to basics, no electricity, bathing is primitive at a freshwater well, and the mainly vegetarian meals are cooked native style in claypots on an open fire.

After Breakfast a guided jungle walk accompanied by a 4-man team from Tree Tops of local trackers (two English speaking). The jungle surrounding the lodge features 400 year old ebony trees and magnificent birdlife, fauna and flora - including elephant, spotted deer, sambhur, barking deer, wild boar, giant squirrel and monkey (mostly macaque and grey langur). Aside from the elephant, animal sightings may not be easy in the forest . But the trackers will show clients their ability to read the signs of the jungle. There may be footprints of sloth bear and leopard.

Day 8 -Buttala / Dambana (FB) |

After breakfast leave for Dambana where we link up with one of the pioneering eco-tourism partnerships established with Sri Lanka 's aboriginal people, the Veddha's. The archaeological history of the Veddhas, date all the way back to the pre and proto history of Sri Lanka.
After lunch at the campsite we will join the Veddha community on a mock hunt and then go down to the village to observe a demonstration of their long-held traditional dances and rituals by a campfire in the night. Overnight stay at the Eco Team Dambana Veddha Campsite.
Forget any ideas about cramped tents and sitting on the ground for mealtimes – this is camping in style! The site is set up prior to your arrival, with everything from the kitchen sink, chairs and tables, toilets, showers and cold beer being transported in. In the evening you can enjoy a hearty barbecue meal in a magical setting – the whole area is lit up with traditional flame torches and a roaring campfire. So sit back, relax and let our experienced staff cater to your every need. |
Day 9 - Dambana / Kandy (FB) |

After Breakfast leave the Dambana camp after breakfast –Cycling to Kandy via Haslaka / Hettipola / Pallegama [Through the Knuckles range] - Coach Ride available as a option

Kandy - Capital of the hill country has a lot to offer- -History / culture / Forested hills and a touch of urban buzz. Kandy was the last capital of the Singhalese Kingdom which fell to the British in 1815 after several aborted attempts at capture by the Portuguese and Dutch .
Evening visit to Dalada Maligawa ( Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha , The founder of Buddhism ), a world heritage site

Day 10 - Kandy – Hantane - Tea estates – Kandy (FB) |

After breakfast we transfer to the top of the Huntane Massif, with its magnificent view of Kandy and the daunting Knuckles Mountains .
The ride follows a trail leading to the estates, where scores of brightly dressed tea pickers pluck the top leaves of the green bush.
As we reach the estate workers' hamlet we come across a technical single-track descent.
An optional 9km-road ascent takes us to the Pitawella rock pools and waterfall, the perfect place for a natural shower and picnic lunch.
Riding after lunch we continue along the tea trails, & end up at the estate's tea factory where we can stop and sample the refreshing local brew and tour the factory.

Day 11 - Kandy / Dambulla (FB) |

After breakfast leave for a cycling journey to Dambulla via Matale.
Dambulla, an ancient city, is known for its beautiful Cave temples and a huge Buddha statue. The history of the 5 caves containing over 150 images of Buddha goes back to 1 st century BC when king Valagambahu took refuge here.

Day 12 - Dambulla / Polonnaruwa / Dambulla (FB) |

After breakfast proceed to Polonnareuwa for a day trip on cycles. Polonarruwa is a UNESCO certified site.
Polonnarruwa
Which was the 2nd capital city of Sri Lanka , built in the 11th and 12th centuries AD, and is a world heritage site. Here you can see the ruins of the Royal Palace, the Gal Viharaya -where 4 splendid statues of the Buddha in 'Upright', 'Sedentary' and 'Recumbent' postures carved out of rock, the Audience Hall, the Lotus Bath, king Parakramabahu's statue, and the Parakrama Samudraya lake built by King Parakramabahu. There are also monuments of famous places of worship such as the Shiva Temple , the Lankathilake, the Watadage, the Galpotha, the Kiri Vehera and the remains of a former Temple of the Tooth Relic.

Day 13 - Dambulla / Anuradhapura / Dambulla (FB) |

After breakfast ,proceed to Anuradhapura for a day drip. Anuradhapura is also considered as a UNESCO certified site. [Cycling or Coach ride ]
Anuradhapura
This sacred city is famous for its historical monuments as well as the "tree of enlightenment", , said to be a part of the sacred tree where the Buddha' attained enlightenment & which was brought to the city in the 3rd century B.C. by Sanghamitta, the founder of an order of Buddhist nuns.
Anuradhapura, a Ceylonese political and religious capital has flourished for 1,300 years. Hidden away in a thick jungle for a long time, the splendid site, with its ancient palaces, monasteries and monuments, is once again accessible.

Day 14 - Dambulla / Wilpattu (FB) |

After breakfast You will continue your cycle tour to the North West of the country. Your destination will be Wilpattu National Park . You will be met at the gate entrance of the park by the Eco team tour leader to escort you to the camp in a 4WD Jeep.
WILPATTU NATIONAL PARK is located 26 km north of Puttalam (approximately 180 km north of Colombo) spanning from the northwest coast inland towards the ancient capital of Anuradhapura (50 km to the east of the park). Covering an impressive 425 sq miles, the park is Sri Lanka 's largest, and having reopened in 2003 it is now an increasingly popular eco-tourism destination.Wilpattu is a fairly thick dry zone jungle interspersed with a number of flood plain lakes banked with delicate white sands. It boasts an impressive variety of flora in huge expanses of forest, and varied wildlife, including deer, elephants, wild boar, sloth bears and leopards.
The five locations for the ECO TEAM SAFARI CAMP in Wilpattu are all in excellent areas for observing the park's varied wildlife from the camp itself. Forget any ideas about cramped tents and sitting on the ground for mealtimes – this is camping in style!
