Your journey will start off after a short orientation at around 10.00am from the bridge across the river at Ratnapura, the City of Gems . The first part of the journey takes you through a more calmer part of the river, where the river flows through a low valley for 15km.
In the next section, the river starts to curve . Canoe another 17km and once you come to Ellagawa, the journey becomes more adventurous with the river flowing faster, creating waves and swirls.
All your best efforts are needed to pass this section. Immediately after leaving this part about 1km down the river from Ellagawa bridge, you will be stopping at a scenic location for lunch on the bank of the river.
After lunch the remaining section of to be covered for the day would be much easier to navigate with water flowing at 4km/hr. After 19km you will come to the Wegawatta village where you will be camping on the banks of the river. |
