The Important Stuff

Sri Lanka is a nation where religion and culture occupy an important place in the day-to-day lives of the local people. It is important to be aware of the customs and practices that are particular to the location you are visiting, so here are a few general tips to keep in mind during your travels. Your chauffeur will assist you with more detailed information.

  • If you plan on visiting any temples, ancient or current, you should wear clothing that covers your body from your shoulders down to your knees. Head coverings such as caps or helmets should be removed and shoes must be taken off at the entrance. White coloured clothing is generally a good choice to go with here.

  • If you have any tattoos associated with Buddhism, Hinduism or Islamism, it’s best that you cover them completely in public places.
  • Smoking is prohibited in indoor public places, workplaces and on public transport.
  • Due to the limited number of lodges available at Ahaspokuna Bush Walks Camp, accommodation must be on a double/twin-sharing basis. Single occupancy requests will be entertained based on availability.
  • No private chauffeur is provided for this tour due to remote trekking and no sightseeing involved. Point-to-point transfers will be arranged using local transport options available at the location.

  1. Batuta trekking tour was an exceptional experience from start to finish

My husband (43) and I (40) recently completed the Batuta trekking tour, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. One of the standout features of this tour was the incredible birding opportunities. As avid bird watchers, we were delighted by the diverse and vibrant birdlife we encountered along the way. The variety of species we saw was truly impressive and added a special dimension to our trekking adventure. The food and accommodation were very good overall, but we would have preferred a little bit more luxury. However, given the remote areas we traveled to, we understand that it's not always practical. Future travelers should be prepared for basic accommodation, except for two places where it is more comfortable. Ahaspokuna, in particular, was perfect for us and provided the touch of luxury we were looking for.

As a couple in our early sixties, we embarked on the Legacy of Battuta 7-day trekking tour and were absolutely thrilled with the experience. From the start, the tour exceeded our expectations in every way. The itinerary was perfectly balanced, offering excellent photo opportunities that captured the stunning landscapes and unique moments throughout our journey. One of the best highlights of the tour was the non-touristic community encounters. We had the chance to meet and interact with local communities, which gave us a deeper understanding of the rich culture and traditions of Sri Lanka. These authentic experiences were truly unforgettable and made our trip even more special. Our trekking guide, Hashan, was phenomenal. His expertise and friendly demeanor made the trek enjoyable and safe. His support was especially invaluable during the challenging stretches. We couldn't have asked for a better guide. The food throughout the tour was fantastic, offering a delicious variety of local dishes. [ Though a bit spicier than we expected ! ]. In summary, this trekking tour provided us with breathtaking scenery, unique cultural encounters, and excellent organization. We highly recommend Experiential Journeys to anyone looking to explore the beauty of Sri Lanka in an immersive and authentic way.

We recently completed the 7-day trekking tour, and it was an incredible experience! As a couple in our mid-fifties, we enjoyed every moment of the adventure. The food was great, and our trekking guide, Asanka, was excellent. His assistance during the Adam's Peak stretch and the last two days was invaluable. The luggage transfers between accommodations worked seamlessly, though we realized we had brought too much with us. Overall, the tour was well-organized, and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for an unforgettable trekking experience in Sri Lanka.
